Visit Dartmouth Castle. Just a mile from the center of Dartmouth, it has picnic areas, shop, refreshments and historic exhibitions. It also has an outstanding views across the river. www.westcountrynow.co.uk

Dartmouth has many pubs, cafes and restaurants. Most of which sell locally caught fresh fish and crabs.

Blackpool Sands (European Blue Flag Award winner) is just one of the beaches in the area, a perfect place for the children to play safely whilst you relax.

For the kids, there is a wealth of activity centres and attractions to visit. One of the closest and most exciting is Woodlands Adventure Centre, only a few miles away.

A day trip to the fabulous Eden Project, about an hour and a quarters drive, is also well worth the effort.
